Ornamental grasses
wave seductively in the wind,
flowers dream of freedom
in carefully aligned pots,
cleomes and roses grow
under the wooden arches
and poplars teach maples
how to touch the sky.

Let’s walk on the gravel path!
The place looks like
a wonderfully light-filled painting.
Summer is the painter’s name,
and butterflies can’t keep it secret:

Love is a garden!

Dandelions and the Sun
are not hard things to draw.

No matter if you have
no colored pencils:

outline your hand
starting near your heart,

the Soul is a child
who loves drawing

and flowers abound
in the garden of stars!

My garden, my heaven,
I wonder who will listen
to the cherry tree spirits.
Will the rain quench your thirst?

And who will see the wandering
soul of the purple blue thistle?
My garden, my heaven,
I remember Winters. I remember Summers.

How brave snowdrops were!
How worthy the lily was!
But the hour is fast approaching:
I will soon be leaving

and I must pray for you.
May seasons be sweet. May children
marvel at your many wonders.
May you become

their Garden, their Heaven.

illustration: Daubigny’s Garden
(Vincent Van Gogh, 1890)

The island was shrouded in mist.
The sea was calm and I sailed
as if guided by Dolphins and Spirits.

I walked along the pristine beach
and the winding path,
I asked well-known birds for a Sign.

The fog did not lift, the Spirits said nothing
but even before I reached the Painter’s house
I was given a bunch of flowers.

Gorse in bloom, bramble flowers
and dried ferns,
beautiful present from the Heath

that still comforts my heart.

Bouquet Champêtre, îles Chausey © 2017– F.G.M.

Thinner than silk paper
softer than mango butter
it looks like both
a frangipani flower
and that special ray of sunshine
able to soften any stone.

Reasons remain unknown,
but as sure as day follows Night
a Treasure of Light
has stolen my heart
and such beauty
gives me the shivers.

From now on
I can touch
the skin of your soul.

Harebell
love-in-a-mist
wild marigold
incredible cosmos.

It’s a mess of flowers,
a colorful animated painting
loved by the butterflies,
a Place of Mystery.

There, the soul of a little bird
can get some rest,
and the sky never ends
above its grave.

Campanule
nigelle
souci des champs
incroyable cosmos.

C’est un fouillis de fleurs,
un vivant tableau de couleurs
aimé des papillons,
un lieu de Mystère.

Là, l’âme d’un petit oiseau
trouve quelque repos,
et le ciel est immense
au dessus de sa tombe.
